The morning after the all night party at the Backpacker Hostel on Langstrasse Street in downtown Zurich, we had our fill of low life. We were ready to see the high life that Zurich had to offer or at least to get a different perspective. We walked from the hostel to the bus terminal parking are to meet our pre-booked “Best of Zurich City Tour”.

All the tour companies (2) do not pay rent on fixed offices at the bus ‘terminal’ parking lot, opting for trailer type mobile offices that are about as big as a double-wide outdoor portable toilet on two wheels.

We had the nicest & cheerful tour guide frau. She grew up in Zurich and gave all tour guide information in English, then in sprecken in the German language.

We’re so excited. The guide said we get to see the singer Tina Turner’s house on the North side of Zurich Lake.  Tina Turner, at age 73 was soon to marry a much younger dude who was only 65 years young at her personal residence in Zurich.   Tina Turner is now a Swiss citizen.   She feels like she is done living in America becasue she feels so comfortable in Zurich.

By the way, Tina, I only have one question,  ”What’s love ♥ got to do with it” ?                     ¿ 🙂

After a big build up, our bus went past the Turner residence and all we got to see a tall street side wood fence with plants growing on it.

That was it.  All we saw of Tina Turner was a dang fence.  What a lack of a thrill that was. Whoopee doo doo. This place reminds me of Hollywood California.

But, later the big woopie party took place at the Tina Turner residence in Zurich with lots of celebrity types.  All of this was unbknownst to us at the time.  But it was a big event.                      Ohhhhh,    how   sweet  !                Ain’t love grand?

It only got better as we continued on the Zurich tour.

The countryside is still green in July.  It’s a nice and comfortable feeling being in Switzerland. I could easily live in the Zurich area or in Germany.  They even have vineyards on many of the hillsides to keep the whiners in supply with lots of whining fuel.  Switzerland makes fine wines but they usually do not ship it out of the country preferring to drink their own private “stash” of vino venom.    How stingy.

The trains all run on time and everything you can think of actually works like it is supposed to work, here in Switzerland and in when we were in Germany.

Punctuality is VERY important for the German and the Swiss folks. For that reason, I chuckled before our Zurich tour began. A retired couple in the front bus seats were forcefully complaining to the tour guide in German, because the tour was not “starting on time” and the guest felt our tour would be shortened if the guide waited any further beyond the scheduled departure time. The guides’ supervisor had to get involved with the irate punctuality-ist. In his view not leaving at the scheduled time was tantamount to a crime in progress, that he had to try to stop from happening. Punctually is a noticeable cultural difference here in the Deutsch sprechen lands compared to other places in the world.

I was in disbelief when our guide told us that we were going to take our huge over sized tour bus on a ferry boat accross Zurich Lake.
image

image

The bus driver parked our bus right in the middle of the ferry boat so we balanced and did not flip the ferry boat contraption over on its side in the water.

We made it to the south side of Lake Zurich without getting wet.

Then after a short drive we hopped into a cable drawn glass gondola for a ride up a small mountain to a wonderful nature park forest.

After a short walk on the mountain forest ridge we came upon a Swiss Chateau.

The chateaus’ interior design was all decked out in traditional Swiss style. It had outdoor seating and a great view of the Zurich Lake and suburb area.

I could not figure out what this musical instrument hanging on the wall. Can you tell me what this is called? _____

The wall mounted deer horns look different in Europe. They show the entire top of the skull cap on the mounting display board. In the USA, you normally see wall hanging deer horn trophies with just the small amount of bone between the two horns on the display board. So that is a cultural difference.

Hay I wonder, do they have “red neck” unsophisticated country bumpkin folks in Switzerland?image
Who is that dork smiling as he huggs the cow? Is that a specialty cheese fan? Is this lost delutional tourist suffering from “happy cow” desease?

The Swiss appearently like all sizes of cow bell decorations. We saw them in many different places. It might have something to do with the art of making a wide variety of cheeses. This cow bell was so big it would give any cow neck spinal problems in a short amount of time.

Gee, a cuckoo clock just like my mom’s cuckoo systematic noise maker & distraction machine.  Who invented this thing anyway?

The Switzerland tourist board is letting travelers know that you do not need to fear peddling bicycles up hills in the Swiss Alps. This is because of the easy access to electric bicycles that do the work for you. It’s a motor bicycle that you do not have to be aerobically fit to ride on.
In Europe, temporary bicycle use drop off stations are increasing and becoming more common. Being a bicycle rider fan myself, I think that is a good thing. This is an electric bicycle example I saw at the bottom of the Zurich forest gondola ride.

Electric bicycle batery compartment.  I’ll bet they don’t really “fly” but just roll the electric bicycle along on the ground.   I’m not as dumb as I look.       {:~)>

I like the european emblems and coats of arms. I always wonder what the symbols signify.
